Digitization Forum

AmCham Cyprus has initiated an informal forum for the main stakeholders in Cyprus’ digitization efforts from both the public and the private sector, to encourage the sharing of information and best practices and provide a platform for aiding strategic planning, implementation and evaluation processes.

The aim is to facilitate and mediate these efforts as to provide the maximum possible benefits for the Cypriot people, the best possible IT related working conditions for local and foreign businesses while simultaneously promoting US and Cypriot expertise and problem-solving  solutions.

This initial project will extend to the end of 2013 and will consist of 3 Round-table Discussions between stakeholders. The results and outcomes will be announced here and shared with the public where  possible.

The First Round-table Meeting occurred on July 4th 2013 at the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & industry with Dr. Stelios Himonas, Cyprus’ Digital Champion invited as the key note speaker and presenter.

Digitization of Cyprus Part 2

The project of bringing clarity and progress to matters concerning Cyprus’ Digital Agenda and the general efforts for digitization in Cyprus continued with the 2nd installment of the Forum on 4 September 2013.

The 2nd installment featured 2 key-note speakers: Mr. Philippos Vatiliotis (PrimeTel) on “The Further Developments of Current Network Infrastructures”  and Mr. George Komodromos  (Department of Electronic Communications) on “Cyprus’ Digital Strategy”. Both presentations can be found below;

Digitization of Cyprus Part 3

The Forums predetermined initial life-span came to a close on 06.11.2013 with the 3rd installment of the initiative. This meeting also featured 2 Presentations but then focused on analysis some of the deliverable of this 6 month exercise and discussing some final suggestions.

This meeting featured Mr. Nikos Ioannou and Mr. Demetris Piperis  presenting “Digital Champion: An Aspect How to Succeed” prepared by Mr. Filippos Filippou, Director of Information Systems & Technology, Cyprus University of Technology and Mr. Neophitos Papadopoulos, Director, Office of the Commissioner of Electronic Communications and Postal Regulation then presented his topic “Regulatory Strategy for Broadband, Goals & Challenges

Regulatory Strategy for Broadband, Goals & Challenges

The participants submitted their proposals and identified obstacles to AmCham Cyprus who passed them on to the Department of Electronic Communications as per previous agreements. Further proposals will be analysed and followed up on by Cyprus Neuroscience & Technology Institute (if a critical mass is received).

A main development of this series of meeting was the proposal of an IT Tsar (a CIO to the President) that will be further developed and reported on in this space.

A follow-up meeting was preliminary set for early 2014 although this meeting will not necessarily follow the format of the previous ones.
